Fencing

FISU World University Games

17 - 22 July
Essen, Germany

The Competition

The fencing competition will take place between 17 - 22 July in Essen, Germany.

Fencing has been part of the Summer Universiade programme since its inception in Turin, Italy in 1959.

A fast, dynamic sport in which the aim of every duel is to hit your opponent with your weapon, without being hit yourself. Protective clothing for the body and head and flattened tips on the weapon prevent serious injury but nevertheless: this is a combat sport that is won by hitting the opponent several times on the valid hit area on the body. Fencing take place on a narrow ‘planché’ measuring 14 metres long and just under two metres wide. The excitement, skill and spectacle of fencing will captivate you.
