UniSport Media Release
For release: 24 November 2023
After a week of rain-interrupted competition, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and The University of Sydney (USYD) have been declared joint-winners of this week’s UniSport Nationals T20 Cricket Championships in Adelaide, South Australia today.
Due to the adverse weather, quarter-finals, semi-finals and today’s finals matches were all abandoned due to water-logged pitches and therefore resulted in the tied championship.
As fate would have it, the first three days saw perfect weather for cricket with the sun beaming across the pool rounds of competition and all matches fully completed. This, unfortunately, was not the case come Thursday and Friday for the all-important finals matches.
Macquarie University and UNSW Sydney also finished joint-third place and received the Div 1 bronze medals.
In Div 2, Deakin University and Western Sydney University (WS) were declared joint-winners, whilst Southern Cross University and University of South Australia were the joint-third placegetters.
UniSport also recognised three notable individual achievements during the presentation ceremony. Congratulations to Deshan Darren (The University of Adelaide) for scoring the most runs (179), to Zac Jancetic & Elijah Hurley (both University of Wollongong) who tied for most wickets taken (10) and to Charlie Griffith (WS) who hit the most 6s (9).
Twelve teams from across Australia participated in the championships. The event was the final event in the 2023 UniSport Nationals series and was held in Adelaide with venues hosted by The University of Adelaide.
