UniSport Nationals, Australia’s premier university multi-sports event, will return to the iconic Gold Coast, Queensland in 2025. From 27 September to 3 October, the Gold Coast promises to be an exhilarating backdrop for the high-calibre competition synonymous with the Nationals.
Unisport Australia today is pleased to announce the strategic partnership with Tourism Events Queensland and Experience Gold Coast for the 2025 event.
The Gold Coast, host of the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Nationals in 2023, is ideally suited to accommodate the student athletes in 2025, with world class sporting facilities, beautiful weather and a vibrant food and dining scene, Nationals in 2025 promises to be one of the best weeks on the calendar.
Queensland’s Minister for Environment and Tourism and Minister for Science and Innovation, Andrew Powell, says it’s excellent to see this event return to the Gold Coast, which has been a home of the UniSport Nationals since 2017.
“The UniSport Nationals returning to the Gold Coast in 2025 is a testament to Queensland’s status as a premier sporting destination. This renowned event will bring together nearly 7,500 student athletes from across the country, contributing to our vibrant tourism industry and showcasing our world-class facilities while generating an economic benefit of more than $7.8 million in visitor expenditure for our state.”
The University of Sydney (USYD) were crowned champions after Nationals in Canberra this year, securing their fifth consecutive title and 15th overall. Nationals in 2025 will see the competition ramp up, as rivals gear-up for a chance to break USYD’s winning streak. With teams from across the country, including 2024 runners-up the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and third placed The University of Melbourne fiercely vying to unseat the reigning champions, next year is set to be one of the most anticipated competitions to date.
“Queensland is committed to delivering exceptional sporting experiences. With the backdrop of the Gold Coast’s stunning beaches, dynamic city life, and state-of-the-art venues, the 2025 UniSport Nationals will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of athletes and spectators as we swim, ride and run the walkway to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” added Powell.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate noted, “Having the prestigious UniSport Nationals on the Gold Coast showcases our world class facilities and provides the perfect setting for the students to perform at their optimum level. With 7,500 student athletes competing in more than 30 sports the energy and excitement will be felt right across our events city.”
Unisport Nationals and the Gold Coast has been a strong partnership and Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn shared his excitement for the event. “We are thrilled to secure Unisport Nationals for another year, one of Australia’s premier university multi-sports events that welcomes 7,500 student athletes to the Gold Coast. This is another win for us and the city in terms of our reputation as a sporting epicentre and for the visitor economy.”
UniSport Australia CEO, Mark Sinderberry echoed this enthusiasm, emphasising the competitive spirit that defines the Nationals. “Nationals embody the passion, resilience, and camaraderie of Australian university athletes. We’re proud to bring the event back to the Gold Coast and celebrate university sport. The stage is set for an unforgettable event.”
Athletes and supporters alike can prepare for seven days of competitive sports and that vibrant atmosphere only the Gold Coast can deliver. With stakes high and rivalries stronger than ever, the 2025 UniSport Nationals are set to be a thrilling and inspiring next chapter in university sports.
