UniSport Australia (UniSport) officially welcomed universities and participants to the 2022 UniSport Nationals this morning, with a Welcome to Country ceremony at UWA Sports Park.
Elder-in-Residence Barry Winmar, led over 100 attendees through a moving ceremony to welcome student-athletes to Whadjuk-Noongar country for the next week. Winmar is also Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Indigenous Wellbeing and Sport.
At the ceremony, UniSport CEO, Mark Sinderberry highlighted that “participating in the nationals is an achievement in itself, representing your university as the best athlete or team in your chosen sport is a memory that will last a lifetime”.
Ian Fitzpatrick, General Manager of UWA Sport outlines "UWA is delighted to be the official host of the 2022 UniSport Nationals Opening Ceremony at UWA Sports Park. I want to thank Barry Winmar for welcoming university student-athletes and support staff from across Australia to Whadjuk Boodjar and wishing them good luck for the Nationals competition. Go Team UWA Maali!"
