Canberra, 16th September 2024 — The UniSport Nationals 2024 came to a close after a week of intense competition and celebration of university sport. The event, hosted in Canberra, brought together students from universities across Australia, to the nation’s capital to compete in 30 sports. In the end it was the University of Sydney who came out on top, now with a total of 15 pennants for 2024, which is enough to claim the title of National UniSport Champions.
A Week of Memorable Moments and Achievements
Throughout the week, Canberra was alive with the energy and excitement of thousands of athletes and supporters. From the opening ceremony to the final whistles, the city provided a vibrant backdrop for this annual event. The spirit of sportsmanship was evident in every competition, as participants pushed themselves and their teams to the limit.
The 2024 Spirit Champion University, receiving the John White Spirit Trophy, was awarded to Australian National University who displayed the most exemplary spirit throughout Nationals. Votes were submitted daily by competition managers, university team managers, UniSport staff and event volunteers.

The success of Nationals 2024 would not have been possible without the significant support of the ACT Government and VisitCanberra. Their commitment to hosting this large-scale event ensured that all participants had access to world-class facilities and a welcoming environment.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better team of competition managers, sports trainers, volunteers and officials,” Christine Voge, General Manager of the Nationals Sports Program added. “Their passion and commitment truly made a difference, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them.”

Looking Ahead
As Canberra bids farewell to Nationals and all who travelled to be a part of this iconic event, reflections on the past week are filled with pride and optimism. The event not only highlighted the talent within Australian universities but also reinforced the strong sense of community and collaboration that is central to university sport.
The final event of the year the Distance Running Nationals held in conjunction with the Sydney Marathon this weekend and post this event UniSport Australia will be able to finalsie the overall champion university and per capita champions per region.
