Canberra, 7th September 2024 — Today marks the beginning of one of the most anticipated events on the Australian university sporting calendar, the UniSport Nationals 2024. Over the next seven days, Canberra will play host to university students from across the nation, competing in a diverse range of sports. This annual multi-sport event celebrates the athleticism, dedication, and competitive spirit that thrives within Australia's university communities.

A Heartfelt Thanks to Canberra and the ACT Government
“The successful staging of an event of this magnitude would not be possible without the support and collaboration of our many partners,” said Mark Sinderberry, CEO UniSport Australia, “we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the city of Canberra and the ACT Government for their unwavering support and generous hospitality.”
“Canberra, with its world-class sporting facilities, vibrant culture, and welcoming community, provides the perfect setting for this year's Nationals,” Sinderberry added. “The ACT government's investment in infrastructure, logistical support, and community engagement has ensured that Nationals will be an event to remember.”
Wishing All Participants the Best of Luck
“To the thousands of athletes, coaches, and support staff who have worked tirelessly to prepare for this moment, we wish you the very best of luck,” said Sinderberry, “Nationals is a culmination of months of hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. Whether you are competing for a gold medal or simply aiming to do your personal best, know that your efforts are admired.”
Athletes are encouraged to embrace the spirit of fair play, respect, and camaraderie that defines Nationals. While the competition will undoubtedly be fierce, it is the friendships and experiences gained along the way that will be remembered long after the final whistle blows. When the curtain falls at the end of Nationals in Canberra, athletes should walk away not only with medals and trophies but with new friends, cherished memories, and a sense of pride in representing their university.
Acknowledging the Supporters and Volunteers
Events of this scale also rely heavily on the contributions of countless volunteers, officials, and support staff. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank everyone who has played a role in bringing Nationals to life. From the event organisers and coaches to the medical teams, referees, and volunteers who ensure that everything runs smoothly, their dedication and hard work are what make this event possible.
Sustainability and Inclusivity
UniSport Australia are particularly proud of the inclusive nature of Nationals, where students from all backgrounds are encouraged to participate and compete. There will be events and campaigns run throughout Nationals to foster the spirit of inclusivity in university sport. Unity Day takes place on Wednesday, 11 September, with the aim of uniting, celebrating and supporting everyone, ensuring no voice goes unheard and to make sure all people feel safe and included.
UniSport is committed to delivering an exceptional sporting experience through Nationals in Canberra, while minimising environmental impact. We constantly explore ways to reduce waste, conserve water and energy, and promote sustainable transport options for participants, staff and spectators. In partnership with Everclime, UniSport have developed two UniSport impact cards for students to choose between, that represent an impact contribution to either ACT Wildlife Conservation or the Forever Reef Project.
UniSport have allocated $5 per registration to these organisations selected by the Student Organising Committee which will begin building an impact legacy for the events we host. We are activating the investment through Everclime and encouraging every student to make a choice.
We are confident that the experiences shared here in Canberra will leave a lasting legacy for all participants, and we eagerly anticipate the outstanding performances that will undoubtedly unfold over the coming days.
Let the games begin and may the UniSport Nationals 2024 be a resounding success!
