UniSport Australia announces inaugural  Pride Day for UniSport Nationals

UniSport Australia (UniSport) is proud to announce the inaugural Pride Day set to take place on Thursday 29 September at UniSport Nationals Div 1 and Div 2 presented by UniBank on the Gold Coast.

Strengthening UniSport’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in university sport, the addition of a Pride Day aims to improve awareness, education and visibility in a safe and welcoming environment for student-athletes who identify as part of the LGBTIQ+ community.

After the University Basketball League’s Pride Round success in May, this is an important next step in UniSport’s commitment to inclusion for our diverse student population.

UniSport CEO, Mark Sinderberry believes university sport is strongly positioned to celebrate acceptance and promote inclusion in sport.

“UniSport Nationals is a vital opportunity to celebrate inclusion and be an industry leader in the acceptance of LGBTIQ+ inclusion in sport,”

“It is important all participants have a positive experience at our events: one that eliminates discriminative behaviour and has zero tolerance of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.” said Mark.

UniSport Nationals is one of the largest multisport events in Australia, providing an opportunity for student-athletes to participate in a competitive environment against some of the best university students across the country.

Pride Day will extend across all 27 venues at UniSport Nationals where over 7,000 participants from 43 member institutions will participate in the event.
