The team comprises 21 student-athletes and 3 officials from across the country who are set to compete in six different events including Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Cross Country Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, Short Track Speed Skating, and Snowboard.
The student-athletes represent a total of 11 Australian universities in 2025 WWG, hailing from the Australian National University (ANU), University of Canberra (UC), Griffith University (GU), Macquarie University (MQU), The University of Melbourne (MELB), UNSW Sydney (UNSW), The University of Sydney (USYD), Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), University of Tasmania (UTAS), Western Sydney University (WS) and University of Wollongong (UOW).
As the year draws to a close, final preparations are underway for the Australian UniRoos team that will make their way to Torino, Italy early in the new year to compete in the 32nd biannual Winter University Games.
Australian UniRoos Chef de Mission, Tameka Collins, is excited by the prospect of this group and is looking forward to the chance to compete against some of the finest winter sport student-athletes in the world.
“The Winter World University Games are an outstanding opportunity for sports to develop the next generation of athletes and officials and to create opportunities to ready them for the highest level of competition,” Mark Sinderberry, CEO of UniSport Australia said.
“UniSport Australia’s purpose is about driving healthier campuses and research is showing us that the work being done by universities in creating flexible pathways and providing world-class facilities for students and staff with Olympic aspirations is benefiting all students,” Sinderberry added.
Located in some of Italy’s most picturesque cities throughout the Piemonte region, six municipalities are being utilised including Turin, Bardonecchia, Pragelato, Pinerolo, Pellice Tower, and Sestiere.
In a historic first for the FISU World University Winter Games student-athletes will have the opportunity to be able to take part in events in Para Alpine Skiing and Para Cross-Country Skiing.
With Turin hosting the Special Olympics World Winter Games in March 2025, this is a perfect opportunity to showcase the world class facilities and inclusive environment.
