UniSport CEO, Mark Sinderberry highlights “UniSport are excited to bring the Uni Rugby Sevens series to different locations across Australia, with some of the brightest upcoming talent set to face each other in three competitive tournaments,” Sinderberry said.

Following on from the previous Aon Uni 7s competition, and after extensive consultation with Rugby Australia and member universities, the new series is set to include seven university teams from across Australia in three round-robin tournaments. The competing teams are:

  • The University of Adelaide (SA)

  • Bond University (QLD)

  • University of Canberra (ACT)

  • The University of Melbourne (VIC)

  • The University of Newcastle (NSW)

  • The University of Sydney (NSW)

  • The University of Western Australia (WA)

The series will be held across three weekends in October 2022, starting in South Australia and culminating in the ACT:

  • Tournament 1: Saturday 8 October – Sunday 9 October, Adelaide (Kaurna)

  • Tournament 2: Saturday 15 October – Sunday 16 October, Newcastle (Awabakal)

  • Tournament 3: Saturday 29 October – Sunday 30 October, Canberra (Ngunnawal)

The winners of the Uni Sevens series will be announced following the third tournament in Ngunnawal, based on points accumulated throughout the three tournaments.

In further exciting news, Rugby Australia will be hosting a 7s camp on the Sunshine Coast in November with players from the Uni Sevens series available for selection. Additionally, this team will have the opportunity to play at the Queensland 7s State Championships at Noosa later in November.

There will be further opportunities for selected players from the camp to take part as Rising Stars in the Next Gen 7s Series in early 2023.

“We are delighted to present a high-level Rugby Sevens series for our members to be involved with, and the additional opportunities offered by Rugby Australia are incredibly important to further develop the pathway of women’s Rugby Sevens in Australia,”

Every match of the Uni Sevens series will be livestreamed on UniSportTV, live and on-demand. Stay tuned for the schedule and results, and don’t miss a minute of action catch when it kicks off on Saturday 8 October.
