What a week it was on the Sunshine Coast! After a week of rain-interrupted competition, The University of Queensland (UQ) have won the 2024 UniSport Nationals T20 Cricket Championships on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
Due to heavy rain leading into the week and during the early part of the week, all of Monday, Tuesday and more than half of Wednesday’s competition was lost to water-logged venues.
Once play did get underway on Wednesday afternoon, teams were determined to play the remaining rounds 3, 4 and 5 fixtures into a straight final and placing matches on Friday morning.
In the final, The University of Western Australia (UWA) scraped together a score of 9/65. Despite some nervous moments, UQ managed to chase the target down in 12.5 overs – finishing on 5/68 to take the title. UWA received the silver medal as runners-up for their efforts.
In the bronze medal match, Macquarie University (MQU) were bowled out for 111 in their batting innings. University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in reply were bowled out for 103 meaning MQU were awarded third place and the bronze medal.
UniSport also recognised three notable individual achievements during the presentation ceremony.
