The countdown is officially on – our UniSport Nationals 2023 competition on the Gold Coast is under a week away!
With 6000+ participants, 42 member universities and 30 sports, this year’s event is bound to be filled with fierce competition, sportsmanship, and incredible highlights in the lead up to crowning our 2023 Nationals’ Champions.
Aside from competing alongside some of the best sporting squads in the country, any past UniSport athlete participant will tell you that the Nationals experience is worth more than just winning any game, or taking out any title.
Monash University student athlete, Ellen Walker, who competed in table tennis at last year’s Perth event describes Nationals as the absolute highlight of her time as a university student.
“There aren’t many chances where you can form lifetime friendships with athletes from all over Australia – it’s a week where you can bond over a love for sport,” Ellen said.
“It's really an opportunity like no other- it's truly been the highlight of my university experience so far.
“I’m so excited to go to the Gold Coast this year representing Monash!” she said.
Many students, like Ellen share the same sentiment, with the Nationals providing an opportunity for thousands of fellow athletes to bond on a national stage, and the chance to form some pretty special memories and meaningful learning experiences along the way.
Additionally, this year’s competition welcomes the inclusion of various special events, featuring alongside our Nationals welcome and closing ceremonies.
This year’s calendar includes our ‘Unity Day’ celebration on Wednesday 27 September embracing the importance of inclusion of all diverse groups within our university student population and providing a platform to foster an environment of acceptance and unity among our student athletes.
Our beloved mascot race event also returns for the Gold Coast Nationals, where university mascots will be racing for bragging rights and the coveted National Mascot trophy.
UniSport Nationals 2023 is just on the horizon, with our head-to-head competitions kicking off from the 23-29 September 2023, promising to deliver some of the best quality of university sport this year.
So, get ready to gear up and don your university team colours – we can’t wait to see you up on the Gold Coast.
