Writer: AdminAdmin

The 2025 FISU Summer World University Games (WUG) are just around the corner, and the excitement is building for what promises to be a world-class event. Taking place this July in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, the WUG will showcase the world’s best student-athletes representing their country in 18 sports.

Representing Australia at the WUG is an exciting and prestigious opportunity for talented student-athletes. Competing at the WUG can serve as a vital stepping stone for student-athletes looking to make their mark on the global stage and progress to higher levels of competition including Olympic and Commonwealth Games. For Australian student-athletes, the opportunity to represent their country at the WUG is now within reach. UniSport Australia has been working with the relevant national sporting organisations to finalise selection process and Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for more than six sports are now open for Australian student-athlete aspiring to represent their country.

Swimming EOIs Open – UniSport Nationals Swimming Key to Selection

Swimming has long been a dominant sport for Australia at international competitions, and the UniRoos program has seen past athletes and WUG medallists go on to achieve Olympic and Commonwealth Games success. This year, UniSport Nationals Swimming will play a pivotal role in identifying the best university swimmers as one of two selection events.

Registrations for UniSport Nationals Swimming are now open, and participation in this event is strongly encouraged for athletes aiming to secure a place in the UniRoos team.

Carrie Graf, Director of Sport at the University of Canberra and former head coach of the Australian Opals, will again serve as Chef de Mission for the UniRoos. Graf brings a wealth of experience in both high-performance coaching and university sports administration. Having led the Opals to international success, her experience is invaluable in supporting and guiding the UniRoos athletes, ensuring they excel on the world stage. Her leadership will inspire the next generation of student-athletes as they represent Australia at this prestigious global event.

"I’m thrilled to return as Chef de Mission for the UniRoos, an opportunity to continue my passion for supporting athletes at the intersection of sport and education. The World University Games provide a unique platform for young athletes to shine, and I’m excited to be part of their journey toward success, both in sport and in life."
