Dynamic Balance for Life: An Adelaide University Judo Club and Adelaide University Sport initiative

Adelaide University Sport and the Adelaide University Judo Club (AUJC) has partnered with South Australian Recreation and Sport to deliver the Dynamic Balance for Life program. This program is a pilot study focusing on fall prevention and balance for people aged 65 and over.

The program is based in Judo-specific exercises and techniques to teach people how to fall safely. An improvement in balance is a part of the program, however there is the knowledge that at some point everyone loses their balance and falls. By teaching participants how to fall safely, primarily with the aim to prevent a broken hip and preserve their quality of life and capacity to do things.

“When I first started, I couldn’t get off the mat. Stand up. Now I can do it with ease.”

– Christine, Dynamic Balance for Life participant
