Bentley Walker-Broose and Isabella Moon Fly the Flag in Torino for the UniRoos

University of Canberra’s Bentley Walker-Broose and Australian National University’s Isabella Moon were granted the honour of being the Australian flag bearers at the 2025 Winter World University Games (WWUG) in Torino.

Walker-Broose and Moon both travel to the WWUG for the second time wearing the green and gold, displaying their experience as some of Australia’s most promising winter athletes coming through the junior ranks.

21-year-old Isabella Moon boasts an impressive resume of achievements across both her selected sports, cross-country skiing and biathlon. Dominating in 2019 becoming the Australian Biathlon U19 Sprint Champion and the U19 Short Champion, and competing at the World Junior Championships, leading to her selection in the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games team, made even more impressive by being 16 at the time.

After being such a prolific young talent on the national and world stage, Moon goes into the 2025 WWUG as a tried and tested athlete at the international level. Off the slopes and hailing from Concord, New South Wales, Isabella is a student at the Australian National University undertaking a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science. Like many Australian winter sport athletes, the climate and geographic challenges of living in the inner Western suburbs of Sydney have not stopped her passion and dedication towards the sport.

Bentley Walker-Broose heads to Italy as one of the most experienced UniRoos at 23-years-of-age, being part of the team for three WWUG including the cancelled 2021 Switzerland edition. The value Walker-Broose adds to the squad extends far beyond the fields as a Level 2 Accredited cross-country ski coach and part of Snow Australia’s Emerging Talent Program, nurturing the next generation of Australian winter athletes.

As a dual Junior World Championship participant, 2020 Australian Junior Skier of the Year, and winner of the sprint and distance titles at the National Championships in 2019, in addition to also competing at the World U23 Cross-Country Championship, Bentley holds impressive accomplishments. All the while completing a Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Canberra.

Growing up in Binjura, New South Wales, a short drive from the Snowy Mountains, Mt Kosciuszko, and Perisher Ski Resort, Walker-Broose has been favoured by Australia’s geographical diversity, granting additional experience many other Australian winter athletes cannot attain at home, placing him in good stead for the WWUG.

The Games kick off on Monday 13 January and run until Thursday 23rd January, with Australia competing in six sports including Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Cross Country Skiing, Freestyle Skiing, Short Track Speed Skating, and Snowboard. The squad consists of 20 student-athletes coming together from across the nation, representing 11 different universities; the Australian National University (ANU), University of Canberra (UC), Griffith University (GU), Macquarie University (MQU), The University of Melbourne (MELB), UNSW Sydney (UNSW), The University of Sydney (USYD), Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), University of Tasmania (UTAS), Western Sydney University (WS) and University of Wollongong (UOW).
