Lacrosse takes on the big stage

History has been made at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre in Carrara this morning where the UniSport Nationals Div 2 competition welcomed the game of lacrosse to their sports program.

A close game between La Trobe University (LTU) and the University of Melbourne (MELB) kicked off the competition seeing MELB come out on top in an opening battle for the ages, 10-9.

Goal keeper from LTU Patrick Guan hopes the inclusion of lacrosse at the UniSport Nationals Div 2 competition will keep the sport in the competition for many years to come.

“It’s such a great experience, I am really standing behind the sport and hoping I can come back and play lacrosse again next year,” Patrick said.

MELB player Jack Mason sees the introduction of lacrosse into the UniSport competition as an opportunity to expand the sport throughout Australia.

“It is only going to grow from here, the more exposure lacrosse gets, the more opportunities like this that we’ll have,” said Jack.

Semi finals begin Wednesday, 10 June from 12pm, with the Gold medal match taking place at the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure centre at 5pm.
